With a quality gaming headset on, your ears are in for a treat. The original soundtrack has been redone and sounds as epic as ever, and unit and building sound effects are more robust and more varied. To go along with the graphics overhaul, all audio has been remastered and reworked. The factory settings do take some tweaking to get looking perfect, and performance is going to be an issue, but I'll get into that later. With the HD graphics pack enabled, everything remains clear no matter how close you get to the action. A zoom feature has been implemented, so you can now pull back to get a broader look at the map or punch right in to see your workers toiling. Trebuchets swinging, troops riding into battle, battering rams hammering down production buildings it's all here, and it all looks stunning. ![]() Ever since I played my first round of the original game, I wanted to see castles and town centers crumble into dust, and that's now a reality. Units and buildings haven't been changed so much that they aren't recognizable, and the artwork and animations are absolutely gorgeous. Age of Empires II has never looked so good, and the developers have kept the feel of the original game. These changes make for a more user-friendly experience, but the biggest and best upgrades are the graphics and animations. Source: Windows Central (Image credit: Source: Windows Central) I've been playing AoEII:DE for about a week to check out whether or not it's worth a buy for long-time veterans and newcomers to the series. Now, with Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition (AoEII:DE) - developed by Forgotten Empires, Tantalus Media, and Wicked Witch and published by Xbox Game Studios - fans of the series are getting an impressive graphics overhaul with new animations and 4K support, three new campaigns with four new civilizations, remastered audio, new units and technologies, plenty of QoL changes, and an improved multiplayer experience with leaderboards, ladders, matchmaking, and improved spectator mode. Age of Empires (Download) at Amazon for $19.99 (opens in new tab).Age of Empires II: HD Edition spawned its own collection of expansion packs, including The Forgotten, The African Kingdoms, and Rise of the Rajas, complete with a bunch of new civilizations, campaigns and a graphics reworks that better suited modern hardware and displays. Anyone who's truly a gamer or indeed any form of ascended being has had at least some experience with this well refined 30 year old single malt. This collection of games was played incessantly by a huge crowd of RTS fans and eventually saw an HD remake in 2013. Overall in my experience from playing ranked like 3 times, getting sick of it and then sticking only to diplo games and skirmishes, I give this a well-earned 10/10. There's truly something for everyone in this open-world immersive roguelike action strategy game. True men like T90, Hera, Doubtcastle, Spirit of the Law, The guy that has his game modded so everything is coloured squares, and NBL continue to spread the word of The Lord to the world through the medium of video, creating a still growing vibrant community of players, from giga-waller chads to boring meta-players. There is mod support for original soundtrack appreciators, showing that not all companies want only money but some want money in exchange for something of actual value, unlike pictures of apes. Ensemble Studios 2 has gone ahead and added all 195 countries on earth to the game through DLC despite the game coming out in 1982, this is in stark contrast to what Michaelsoft has done with the Halo franchise, which they sold to a homeless man under the Golden Gate Bridge. There is also Campaigns but you only play it when the internet is down. ![]() You basically just Cuuman all over the map. My favourite way to play is Cumans, as you are secretly the most powerful god ever but high ELO plebs (as opposed to low ELO legends) are yet to discover that 2 TC booming to build a billion stables and teching into mass camel, steppe lancer and kipchak with the tech that makes creating them even faster is an unstoppable force. The god of Huns is a classic pick as the Huns never discovered fire and sleep on dirt so you never get housed, but you cant create camels which are actually the real best unit in the game (Paladin Cringe) - this is why the other best god is Gurjaras who recognise that Paladin is a waste of time. ![]() Any gaps in your farms are also unacceptable and destroys productivity as per Spirit Of The Law's thesis on The Lawn, which makes playing as the god of Poland the most powerful god in the game. A fast-paced tactical first person pov strategy arrow shooter where you play as god and must avoid getting housed or idling your town centre or else you basically have to immediately resign as you've already lost.
